Hey guys. Just wanted to pass along some news about Zurandis. The other day when he was coming back from his grandmother's funeral his dad passed out while driving. His Aunt was in the passenger seat and Zurandis + his young cousin were in the back seat. His Aunt had surgery already and I'm not too sure about her condition. His cousin was ejected from the PickUp from not wearing a seatbelt and died. Zurandis in amazing acrobatic feats somehow managed to push himself back into the truck and prevent ejection. As a result he lived but he shattered vertebra and some other injuries. He is in a lengthy surgery today to repair his injuries. When I spoke to him he was doing "moderately terrible" but said he could still move his legs. So he thankfully wasn't paralyzed. His latest facebook message reads(11 hours ago at this time): "About 3 hours until I go into surgery. The MRI revealed a few more things wrong with my back. There's the burst fracture on the L1 and my pelvis is fractured. Now it also appears that my L2 is also burst fractured and I have a compound fracture on my L3." I'll post more as I hear from him. Tried reaching him yesterday but his dad picked up and said zurandis was sleeping. Knowing Zurandis though, he'll be more worried about his crappy internet he has in Alabama more than anything about himself.
yea i talked to him i think last week for awhile and his complaint was to get his parents to move to as better location so he could get better internet. I hope things are ok, hes on a long road to recovery.
Oh dear well hopefully the surgery goes well and there aren't too many permanent complications. The best news is he is at least alive that is a huge thing to be thankful for.
It apparently was a 7 hour surgery. Here's the latest facebook post from 4 hours ago: Surgery went well. Removed all bone fragments, grafted and fused 4 vertebrae, added 2 rods and 8 screws, received 4 units of blood, repaired the dura tear. Will have a clam shell brace, front & back, on his torso when they start getting him out of bed and moving on Sunday. He will have to wear it for about 3 months. It will be 9 - 12 months healing process.
Spoke to him today. He says he's getting his turtle shell tomorrow. He chose black carbon fiber. I properly informed him Batman was not a Turtle. He laughed. He's doing pretty well considering what he's going through. He's hoping they let him go home tomorrow but he's expecting them to keep him for a few more days. Edit: Apparently typing "turtle" makes an icon.. wonder what other things this forum will do
