Sad sad day today for all of us Star Trek fans out there. Leonard Nimoy has died at the age of 83. He died Friday morning in his Los Angeles home, with his wife by his side, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nimoy was best known to fans for his role of Spock in Star Trek-- a role he first played in 1966, and continued to embody over the decades, most recently in the J.J. Abrams' pair of Star Trek movies in a crucial role that bridged the old series with the new. But while Spock was certainly Nimoy's most prolific contribution to movies and television, it was hardly his sole endeavor. He was also in a veritable ton of television shows from the middle of the 20th century, ranging from the original Mission: Impossible series to Bonanza to Gunsmoke. On the non-Star Trek movie front, Nimoy popped up all over the place, perhaps most notably in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He was a very active voice actor, appearing in The Transformers: The Movie, The Pagemaster, The Simpsons, and even the computer game Civilization IV. Nimoy was also a director, having helmed Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and the hit comedy 3 Men and a Baby.
